What are Business Visas?

Unlike immigrant visas, business visas do not allow directly for adjustment of status. However, they can offer many other opportunities for foreigners interested in living, studying, or working in the United States temporarily. Some of these visas can be renewed numerous times, while others have limits. Additionally, this type of visa can help the foreigner to legally stay in the United States while seeking a way to qualify for an immigrant visa. The most common nonimmigrant visas currently are:

  • Student Visas

  • Work Visas

  • Investor Visas

What are Sponsored Visas?

Sponsored visas are those that require you, the foreign national, to have an employer based or with offices in the United States to serve as the sponsor. The sponsor is responsible for some of the steps of the visa process, thus sponsoring the foreign national’s visa. By doing so, the employer is basically guaranteeing to local immigration authorities that you will be a legal working resident. The employer must hire you for the job position described in the documents submitted to the Department of Labor or the USCIS and must comply with guidelines for payments and hours worked, if applicable.

You can search for a sponsor and petition for a work visa while in the U.S. if a change of status is allowed in your situation or while out of the country through consular processing.

Types of Business Visas

  • What is immigration law?
Immigration law governs the rules and regulations surrounding the entry and stay of individuals in a country. It encompasses visas, green cards, asylum, and citizenship. Understanding these laws is crucial for navigating the immigration process.
  • How to apply for a visa?
To apply for a visa, you must first determine the type of visa you need. Then, complete the application form and gather necessary documents. Finally, submit your application and attend an interview if required.
  • What is a green card?
A green card allows a non-U.S. citizen to live and work permanently in the United States. It is also known as a Permanent Resident Card. Obtaining a green card can be a significant step towards citizenship.
  • What is asylum?
Asylum is a form of protection granted to individuals in the U.S. who fear persecution in their home country. To qualify, you must demonstrate a well-founded fear of persecution based on specific factors. The application process involves submitting a detailed application and attending an interview.
  • How to become a citizen?
To become a U.S. citizen, you must meet eligibility requirements, including residency and good moral character. The process involves submitting an application, attending an interview, and passing a citizenship test. Once approved, you will take an oath of allegiance.

OTHER VISAS

Immigrant Visas

Immigrant visas provide the visa holder a pathway to legal permanent residency (green card) and citizenship. This type of visa can be family-based or employment-based. Family-based immigration occurs when a U.S. Citizen, legal permanent resident (or green card holder) or refugee helps a family member come to the United States on a family-based visa. Employment-based visas are obtained with the help of an employer who also serves as a sponsor for the applicant.
